Meeting Clients Where They Are

To better serve our neighbors, the Christian Job Corps of Gillespie County announces Next Level Learning programs that help them become more successful in employment and life.

In addition to our 10-week job readiness training, these programs allow us to serve the specific needs of more individuals where they are. Clients using these services will qualify for more jobs and become more productive and valuable employees.

We would love for you to help spread the word!

GED Tutoring

Without a high school diploma, the opportunities for a job are limited, and the opportunity to advance is even smaller. Getting a GED can help workers advance past low-skill, entry-level jobs by qualifying for higher-paid jobs and pursuing further education and training.

One-on-one tutoring prepares clients to pass the GED test in English and Spanish. Study materials and practice tests are provided, and need-based scholarships for test fees are available upon request thanks to generous donations.

Skills that many take for granted are lost when they have not been practiced and used. In March, two weekly classes will also be available to help clients build their skills to be more valuable and effective workers.

Reading & Writing Basics Class

To successfully pass the GED and in the workplace, clients need to comprehend and analyze simple passages and write to support claims and conclusions. The Reading & Writing Basics class equips and strengthens those skills in reading, grammar and vocabulary.

Building Computer Skills Class

The Building Computer Skills class helps clients improve their knowledge and skill to create and format documents, use email and web-based programs and increase typing speed.

Soft Skills Workshop

On February 24th, CJCGC will begin a monthly soft skills workshop to help workers be more successful and effective in the workplace. Each monthly topic will highlight an area in interpersonal skills, personal qualities, communication skills or critical thinking skills.

The first workshop entitled Unlock Your Confidence will be presented by Jorge Sanchez, owner of Mi Plaza. Mr. Sanchez’s presentation will help participants appropriately express their needs and opinions and build confidence in making decisions.

Full details (location, dates and times) about tutoring, classes and workshops can be found at www.cjcgc.org/Next-Level.
